The Dufftown Distillery was established by Peter MacKenzie in 1896, at the height of the Scottish whisky boom. However, only three years after entering the whisky business, the domestic market collapsed and the MacKenzies were forced to turn their attention overseas. MacKenzie and his sons took the American market by storm, even managing to thrive throughout the Prohibition era. When the Prohibition Act was finally repealed in 1933, the Dufftown Distillery was one of only 15 Scottish distilleries still in operation. To this day, the Dufftown Distillery continues to produce the same high-quality spirit that allowed them to survive the darkest decade in the history of whisky production. The same traditional methods, centuries of craft, and ancient water source are still used in our award-winning whisky, known as one of the smoothest and most approachable whiskies in Scotland. We owe our success to a slow distillation process and secret blend of European and American oak casks.
