In 1992, Moët Hennessy Wine Estates and Bodegas Chandon Argentina would begin the Terrazas de los Andes project. After several years of searching and exploring new lands, in order to discover and identify the best terroirs for each grape variety, the Terrazas de los Andes winery was inaugurated in 1999 .
Argentina is home to some of the world’s highest vineyards. This Chardonnay hails from Uco Valley in Mendoza, where plots are 1250 metres above sea level. At these altitudes, the natural acidity and freshness of the grapes are retained. The cool night-time temperatures also slow down the ripening process, helping concentrate flavours. These conditions make for less interaction when it comes to the winemaking process – the natural expression of the grapes is allowed to shine. The end result is an elegant and deeply refreshing style of Chardonnay. Expect white peach, papaya and citrus. Gentle oak ageing shows in subtle toasty notes of hazelnut and vanilla.

The winemaking centre of Argentina, the land of Malbec, is located in the heart of Mendoza. The combination of Malbec and Mendoza is sure to guarantee the highest-quality wines of the country.
Terrazas de Los Andes is situated in the foothills of the Andes at the winemaking heart of Argentina, Mendoza, where their primary variety is Malbec.
The current winery was built in 1898 by Sotero Arizu, one of the pioneers in the production and commercialisation of Argentinian wines. The year 1960 brought about big changes in winemaking in Argentina when Moët & Chandon opened its first subsidiary in Mendoza, being the first ever French winery to invest in Latin America. The main building of the old winery was renovated and Terrazas de Los Andes was established in 1996.
Currently, the winery has eight vineyards planted at various altitudes between 980 metres and 1,250 metres above sea level. The oldest vineyard that is still in use was planted in 1929. Their signature variety is Malbec which was brought to Argentina from France in 1850, their other varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, and Chardonnay.
‘We are vineyard specialists first, then winemakers’– that is the philosophy of the team of Terrazas de Los Andes. The quality of their wines depends 95% on the characteristics of the raw material, and it is the winemaker’s duty to bring out the purest expression of terroir in the wines.
Difficult natural conditions – the high-altitude climate, cold nights, low rainfall, and lack of organic elements in the ground – force vines to grow their roots deep in the ground, resulting in vivid, intense flavoured wines.
Pure Argentina
Pure Malbec wine from a single winery, harvested from a 100-year-old vineyard situated more than 1,000 metres above sea level – something like this is nearly impossible to find elsewhere thanks to the peculiarities of the winemaking history of Argentina.
Altitude matters
Compare two of their wines produced from grapes grown at different altitudes and you will be surprised how even some twenty metres can yield such differences in flavour.
